How many smoke alarms are required in Queensland?
On each story:
A smoke alarm must be installed in each bedroom
In hallways that connect bedrooms
If there is no hallway between a bedroom and other parts of the house, a smoke alarm must be installed between the bedroom and other parts of the house
If there are no bedrooms on a story, at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the most likely path of travel to exit the dwelling
Not all Queensland properties can use wireless smoke alarms. How do you know if you can?
If your installation meets the following criteria, you will need 240v:
Any new construction mandates the installation of hard-wired smoke alarms, a regulation in place since 1997
For major renovations, hard-wired smoke alarms are required; consult with your draftsman for specifics.
If you’re replacing pre-existing 240v mains connected hard-wired smoke alarms, it must be replaced with a hard-wired smoke alarm
